Producer Prices Rose 0.5% in September

The Producer Price Index for last need increased 0.5% in September, seasonally changed, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. On an unadjusted basis, the last need index went up 8.6% for the 12 months ended in September, the biggest advance considering that 2010.

Prices for last need less foods, energy, and trade services increased 0.1% in September. For the 12 months ended in September, the index went up 5.9%.

The index for last need items increased 1.3% in September. Most of the August boost can be traced to the index for last need energy, which went up 2.8%.

The index for last need services increased 0.2% for the month, the ninth successive boost. Leading the boost in September, the index for last need trade services increased 0.9%.
