The B-21 Raider and the future of the Air Force bomber force

The Air Force requires some brand-new bombers. The B-1B Lancer and B-2A Spirit remain in the golden of their professions, and the B-21 Raider, a brand-new stealth bomber produced by Northrop Grumman intends to take control of the function as the premier bomber for the United States.

‘Our enemy’s defenses have actually increased greatly, considering that the introduction of the B-2,” said Thomas DiNanno, adjunct fellow at the Hudson Institute. “Chinese and Russian air defense systems, the S-400, the S-500, are extremely capable, they’re very harmful. And so the updating innovative stealth abilities is necessary.”

Digital style, focused requirements by the Air Force and previous experience by Northrop Grumman in fielding a stealthy flying wing are credited with why the program appears to be on track and on budget.

“The B-21 looks extremely comparable to the B-2 due to the fact that the principles of stealth and long-range permeating air are developed around the idea of a flying wing,” said Doug Young, vice president and general manager, strike division at Northrop Grumman. “And that even returns to the YB-49 jet when Jack Northrop in fact produced a few of the very first flying wings.’
